Rain relief coming…but, first, heat & humidity

AIR QUALITY CHECK FOR YOUR AREA

AIR QUALITY CHECK FOR DESOTO COUNTY

We’re looking at another HOT Saturday with temperatures approaching 100 (which would tie a record) and heat indices near 101-105. A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued for the Phillips, Coahoma, St. Francis, Cross, Quitman, Lee, Tallahatchie, Tunica counties until 7:00 PM. On top of that, there is a CODE ORANGE ozone alert for Shelby, DeSoto, and Crittenden counties today. Haze, humidity, and the heat will make the outdoors uncomfortable – watch lighting up the BBQ grill as dry conditions make grassfires a threat until we get some rain…

Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99. Heat index values as high as 104.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 74.

Rainfall for Sunday is looking more promising as a cold front moves into the News Channel 3 viewing area on Sunday. Models show rain moving in around church time with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Precipitation may linger into Monday over north Mississippi. Temperatures for Monday and Tuesday will be the coolest we’ve seen in a while with highs in the 80s and morning lows in the 60s!

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84
