STORRS, Conn-(AP)-Shaq Goodwin hit a short fall-away jumper that rattled around the rim before falling with 8 seconds left to give Memphis a 54-53 win over UConn and move the Tigers into a tie for fifth place in the American Athletic Conference with the Huskies.

UConn’s Ryan Boatright missed an off balance shot just before the buzzer that would have given the win to the Huskies.

Trashon Burrell led Memphis (18-12, 10-7 American) with 22 points. Kedren Johnson had 10 and Calvin Godfrey chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman guard Daniel Hamilton had 16 points for the Huskies (17-12, 10-8) and Boatright added 14 points in his final home game.

Memphis held UConn to just 28 percent shooting, while shooting just under 40 percent from the floor.

The top five seeds get first-round byes in next week’s AAC tournament and Memphis now holds a tiebreaker over UConn after sweeping the season series.
