The Memphis Solid Waste Division is launching new collection schedules in several different ZIP codes. Deputy Director Philip Davis talked about how these changes could affect your neighborhood.
Davis said the impact of COVID on staffing, plus the winter weather from Feb. 10-20, has resulted in the biggest impact on garbage pickup in his nine years in the job.
There are also changes coming in the eastern part of the city, where garbage collection service is contracted to other companies. Routes and schedules were inpacted by deannexatins of some eastern parts of Memphis, Davis said.
Information on changes to garbage collection routes and schedules can be found at https://www.memphistn.gov/government/solid-waste-management/. There is also an app in the App store for Memphis curbside collection that can provide information.
Davis also said he hopes to have an announcement about curbside recycling resuming in the next couple of weeks. That service has been suspended since Dec. 1.
