MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis author Mark Greaney has been busy churning out blockbuster stories. Now he has a new movie based on his books set to premiere, and a set of novels featuring a whole new character.
Greaney, who has written 22 novels in 13 years, is best known for his series of “Gray Man” books.
His new action-packed novel, “Armored,” features an all-new character and storyline about a wounded veteran working as a mall cop who is asked to work a security officer in the “badlands” of Mexico’s cartel country.
“This is the first book in a new series,” Greaney said. “I would describe it as one part ‘Apocalypse Now’ and one part ‘Black Hawk Down.'”
Greaney traveled to Mexico to research the Sinaloa area, where much of the novel takes place.
“It gave me a whole different perspective,” he said. “I really have a lot of empathy for the people of Mexico.”
Meanwhile, the new movie “The Gray Man,” based on his series, is set to premiere in Los Angeles next week.
“It’s a big-budget action film starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Billy Bob Thornton, Ana de Armas, and it’s just a big, romp spy novel written and directed by the Russo Brothers,” Greaney said.
“The Gray Man” will show in Memphis theaters starting July 15 and will stream on Netflix July 22.
