SAN FRANCISCO — YouTube and its parent company Google introduced their newest creation, YouTube Red.
Executives said Red would be a subscription service that will cost $10 a month to watch the same videos already online without the ads.
During a new conference, they also announced YouTube Originals, original programming similar to what consumers have seen coming from Netflix.
These shows would only be available to those who have paid for the subscription service, reported the New York Times.
The service is expected to be rolled out next week, but the company wanted to reiterate the fact the original YouTube that everyone has come to know and love would not be going anywhere.
Viewers are also allowed to try a free one month trial of YouTube Red starting on October 28.
According to the New York Times, the video giant generates billions each year running ads and has become Google’s leading revenue source, generating anywhere from $5 to $10 billion for the company each year.
