MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A woman is recovering after an overnight shooting at a Memphis motel.

Police say the woman was shot just before 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Days Inn on American Way between Lamar and Getwell.

The woman went to the hotel and found her boyfriend with another woman.

Police say she knocked on the door, and when the man opened the door, she swung at him, and he pulled a pistol and shot her.

The woman is in non-critical condition.

This isn't the first shooting there and police are still looking for the man involved in Tuesday morning's shooting.

A woman said she heard a man and a woman arguing at the Days Inn. Shortly after, she heard gunshots.

"The lady in the room next door to me, I heard someone banging on her door," said Keanna Higgins who was staying at the motel.

Higgins said the banging on the door lasted for a few minutes.

"Then I went to the window and I saw the guy and the girl was like so really you going to shoot at me while I’m pregnant," Higgins stated.

Higgins says the woman repeated the same thing again.

"And I saw the guy run down the stairs and hop in his car and speed off," she replied.

Police have not confirmed if the woman who was shot is indeed pregnant.

Howard Sinclair who’s a truck driver stays at the motel when was in town for work.

He was at the motel last year when someone was killed there, "I saw the whole thing because it was a big commotion and the car came and he came out in the parking lot the guy said something and he went, pow, pow."

That was July 2014, when police told us the victim was at the hotel with his new girlfriend when his ex-girlfriend showed up.

The ex-girlfriend left, then returned with another man. The two argued and the ex-boyfriend was shot.

"I don’t think I want to stay here, I’ll probably find somewhere else to stay because it’s getting too risky," Sinclair added.
