MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in jail after police said he groped, harassed, and followed a woman onto a MATA bus.

Tasha Rooks knows a thing or two about catching the bus. She was disgusted when she heard of what a man is accused of doing to a woman at a bus stop she uses everyday.

“That’s just really disrespectful and stuff,” Rooks said.

Sean Burt is charged with sexual battery.

Police said he assaulted a woman trying to catch the bus at Front and Monroe.

According to the police report, Burt stuck his right hand down the back of the victim’s jeans, and put his left hand inside of her shirt and grabbed her breast.

“I wouldn’t appreciate that and I’d call the police,” Rooks said.

When the bus pulled up, the woman asked the driver to call police.

A spokesperson for MATA told WREG Burt followed the woman onto the bus, and the MATA bus driver reportedly called security.

When the bus pulled up at the downtown MATA terminal, officers slapped cuffs on his wrists and took him off of the bus.

“I think he should be punished and stuff like that,” Rooks said.

Burty is locked up on $20,000 bond and expected in court Monday morning.
