MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 38-year-old man was arrested on a murder charge after a shooting at an airport-area motel Wednesday.

Angelos Washington was also charged with two counts of attempted murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.

Authorities said when they arrived at the Budget Host Inn & Suites on Airways they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and neck. Nearby Paula Foster was suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Both were taken to the Regional Medical Center, but Foster did not survive, police said.

The male victim later told police that Washington had been harassing Williams so he confronted the man to get him to stop. That's when Washington allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several times, striking both victims.

Washington fled the scene in a wheelchair and was arrested in the 2200 block of Democrat.

At the time of his arrest, officers said he told them that "I did what I had to do."
