MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were rushed to the hospital after they were shot during a robbery attempt at a wholesale furniture store.

Authorities said they were called to Rose Company LLC at 4221 Lamar around 9 a.m. Friday morning. Police said a man entered the building and demanded money from the couple who owned the business, then shot them with a handgun and sped off in a brown Hyundai with Tennessee tags S9761B.

A woman was rushed to the hospital from the scene in critical condition. A male victim was also taken to the hospital but he is expected to be okay.

Police identified the suspect as Rozelle Curtis, 26, 6 foot, 4 inches, 180 pounds. A warrant has been issued for attempted first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated robbery and other charges.

He is believed to be armed and should be considered extremely dangerous, police said. Images of Curtis are below:

The business is owned by a couple who usually open the store around 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. One other person is usually there with them at the time.

“She`s a beautiful lady. She’s a beautiful lady. She’s real nice and sweet,” said a man who works next door, describing the victim. “I feel sorry for my neighbors. My heart goes out to them and their family.”

“You never know what`s going on in this neighborhood, honestly,” said Damon Laxton, a manager at Memphis Wholesale Plumbing across the street.

Laxton says they keep extra security and protection for this reason.

“It’s a crying shame, like you said, just out here trying to feed your family and idiots trying to do it the easy way. It’s scary,” he said.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
