(Memphis) The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking customers to scale back their power usage.

The utility says freezing temperatures are causing a high demand for electricity across the region.

Friday, high temperatures in the MidSouth are expected to be at or below freezing.

The TVA says bulk electric system remains secure and stable, but it want to make sure everyone stays on the grid.

Chris Stanley is with the TVA,  “Peak times are around five o’clock, five thirty when you get home, then a again when you’re waking up in the morning. There’s a high demand on utility usage at that time, so just think through what you do not need to have on at that time.”

If you lower your thermostat by one degree and unplug electronics you’re not using to reduce your power usage, you could also save a few bucks.
