TUNICA, Miss. — Mississippi authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed Tuesday night.

The Tunica Sheriff's Department didn't identify the victim but said he was shot at Sears Avenue and Mayhan Street in Tunica.

Neighbors told us the victim's name is Leroy Thomas.

Rudy Steele lives close enough to Thomas' home that he could hear any commotion. But on Tuesday night he says he didn't hear the gunshot.

"He was just a good guy, you know. He was happy-go-lucky," Steele said.

Neighbors say Thomas, who they refer to as 'Duck,' never bothered anyone, wasn't flashy and didn't have any enemies that they know of. That's why they can't figure out who would want to hurt him.

"He's just been 'Duck.' I call him quack-quack as a nickname," a neighbor said.

Deputies haven't said if there was a struggle involved. They haven't told us if Thomas fought for his life or if he tried to call out for help.

Friends like Steele told us Thomas was a man who earned an honest living.

"He doesn't go anywhere. He be at home," he said. "When he didn't work he fished."
