(Memphis) Today marks the first day of Kwanzaa.

The annual week long celebration of African American culture and traditions began in 1966.

Each day of Kwanzaa is dedicated to a specific principle.

Today it’s dedicated to unity.

The other six principles are self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
