TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office says an elementary school teacher and her husband were arrested after an undercover drug bust.

Jaime and James Byram were arrested at their home in Munford, Tennessee following an undercover operation.

Authorities said they were selling marijuana, LSD, Ecstasy and other drugs from their home since at least November.

Police say Jaime Byram is a second grade teacher at Munford Elementary School.

Investigators say the couple was involved with making, delivering and selling Schedule I, Schedule IV and Schedule VI narcotics.

No evidence shows any illegal activity occurred on school property.

Residents in Munford said Tuesday they were surprised by the news.

“We’re just in total shock,” said Navy veteran Doug Justice, who said he lives next door to the couple. “Typical Southern family. Like to barbecue, like to shoot firecrackers. Stuff like that, just none of us here can believe it.”

Scott Malady, whose son attends Munford Elementary, said Byran should be removed from her job.

“In a small town you’ll hear a little gossip. It gets around. This just come out of nowhere on everybody it seems like,” Malady said.

Munford Elementary Principal Varissa Richardson said Byram’s class had a substitute Tuesday and all students went home with a letter from the school.

She said Byram has worked there since 2005. She had a clean record and was well-liked.

Neighbors say the couple’s children were with family Tuesday night.

“What’s happened to our country?” Justice asked. “This is beginning to be the norm, not the exception.”

Both husband and wife are facing six total charges, five drug charges and one weapons charge.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they have posted bond and are expected to be released soon.
