(WREG-TV) Using the latest FBI crime statistics, website 24/7wallst.com ranked Tennessee as the most dangerous state in America.

Tennessee ranked other states in violent crime per population as well as the poverty rate.

Tennessee:

  • Violent crimes per 100,000: 643.6
  • Poverty rate: 17.9%
  • Pct. of population with bachelor’s degree or higher: 24.3%
  • Property crimes per 100,000: 3,371.4

The study said crime in Memphis and Nashville propelled the state to the top of the list, “Memphis’s violent crime rate was the nation’s fifth worst, while Nashville’s was the 18th worst.”

Nevada came in second followed by Alaska and New Mexico.
