MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A pastor on a mission made a stop in Memphis.

Tennessee Pastor Walter McGill, also known as the cross country-flagman, is walking coast to coast carrying an American flag.

Friday, he was in Arkansas after making his way through Memphis Thursday.

When he reaches the Pacific coast, the historic flag will be the first one ever to be carried from coast to coast by a veteran.

The freedom walker began his journey April 23rd in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

During his project, which he calls the trans-American crosswalk, he’s asking for people to simply respect each other, a message he passes along in each city he visits.

McGill, a Vietnam veteran, expects to reach his final destination in Santa Monica next February.
