(Memphis) A 16-year-old charged with raping an 18-year-old female at East High School  has been released on his own recognizance.

On Monday, we were told, “Recent additional evidence gathered in the case has determined that the case is STILL under investigation.”

Last week, the female said she had been raped in a stairwell at the school.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, “After questioning, the suspect was transported to the CJC and was charged with rape per the DA’s Office. The 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody and is now at Juvenile Court.”

According to an affidavit, the victim was a special education student who had been sent out of her classroom because she had food.

She went to a stairwell to eat, and then the 16-year-old forced her down the stairs, pushed her to the ground and locked the door.

The affidavit states the girl was raped, slapped and dragged on the floor, before a friend missed her in class and went to find her.

The friend heard her screams and went for help.
