FOREST ACRES, S.C. — The suspect in custody for shooting a South Carolina officer at shopping mall Wednesday morning has been charged with murder.

According to the A.P., 34-year-old Jarvis Hall of Eastover was arrested right after the shooting.

Two officers, including 32-year-old Greg Alia, responded to a report of a suspicious person at Richland Mall in Forest Acres around 8 a.m.

As they were chasing Hall through the mall, the suspect turned and opened fire on the officers.

An arrest warrant said Alia was shot with a .40-caliber handgun stolen in early September.

Hall was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Hall hasn’t had a bond hearing and it wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.

Officer Alia was a seven year member of the force and leaves behind his wife and a young baby.

Forest Acres is a residential town virtually surrounded by Columbia.

The mall is anchored by a department store, a bookstore and a theater complex.
