DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — A 63-year-old Desoto County woman was murdered inside her home early Thursday morning.
According to a source, authorities responded to an Allen Road home to find the victim dead.
They said they believe the suspect entered the home, attacked the woman and then killed her before taking off in her car.
The suspect was caught some time later near Getwell and Holly Springs Road. Authorities said he was still in the victim's vehicle.
The Desoto County Sheriff'S Department says the suspect is a juvenile from Independence, Mississippi.
The Ladd family lives less than a hundred feet away from where the suspect was caught. The massive police presence was hard for them to ignore.
"Every person in this neighborhood dreads getting broken into," said Chris Ladd. "Everybody around here is armed. They ain't gonna put up with it."
The Desoto County Sheriff'S Office has not released information on the victim but tells WREG the incident is under investigation.
Residents are happy with the effort from local authorities, but are concerned the area is headed in the wrong direction.
"When it starts, you can't stop it. The police are doing what they can do, but it's just out of control," Ladd said.
