MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man has been charged with aggravated assault after police said he accidentally shot a young woman in the neck early Monday morning.

It happened around 1 a.m. in the parking lot at the Eden at Waters Edge Apartments in Northeast Memphis.

Police said Bruce Woolley, 20,  was standing by a vehicle on 2nd Cove in the apartment complex and decided to remove his Smith and Wesson from his holster before going upstairs to an apartment.

Investigators said in doing so, he fired a single shot hitting an 18-year-old woman sitting in the passenger’s seat of the vehicle in the neck.

Police said Woolley admitted to accidentally shooting the woman and having some beer before the incident.

The woman was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Woolley was also charged with being in possession of handgun while intoxicated.
