MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County School employee has been suspended following reports of a physical altercation involving students at Oakhaven High School.

The incident reportedly happened Wednesday afternoon. The victim told investigators a group of students were sitting in the band hall when a teacher walked in and hit the victim in the left arm.

The student who reported the incident said he then saw the teacher hit other students in the face and chest. The teacher was reportedly mad because it took them too long to get to another room.

According to the student, this is not the first time the teacher has hit students.

The victim did not have any visible marks or bruises on his body, police said, and the other students were not on the scene to corroborate the story.

The district wouldn’t release specific information about the incident, but did release a statement saying, “Any reports involving the safety of our students are always taken extremely seriously.”

“It is District standard procedure for employees to be removed from their position during an investigation,” they added.
