(Memphis) Two robbery victims turn the tables on the man who tried to rob them. The victims, a man and woman were shot, but in the end its the robber who didn’t make it out alive.

Twenty-two-year-old robbery suspect Darius Davis died Saturday. Police say he was shot as his victims tried to defend themselves. It happened early Saturday morning near North Watkins.

“I’m still a little shaken up about it,” said Latasha Hodges, who was inside when the shooting started.

Memphis Police say Davis was attempting to rob a man and woman in a driveway in the 1100 block of W. Lexington Circle when he was shot and killed by one of his victims.

“You just can’t run up on somebody and try to rob them because you just don’t what they have or what they’ll do,” said Hodges, whose sister is one of the victims. “I’m sad that he did die, but there is nothing we can do about it.”

Police say Davis managed to shoot the man and woman before he was stopped.

“I opened the door and saw my sister laying down and she was like, ‘I’ve been shot, I’ve been shot’,” she said.

Hodges called police. She claims Davis walked up to her sister and her friend and demanded that they not move. Hodges says he then opened fire as her sister tried to get away, “I never thought that would happen so close to home and to somebody that is so close to me.”

However, Hodges’ sister made it out alive, she says, thanks to her heat-packing friend.

“When I saw him last night I couldn’t do anything, but hug him and I was crying,” Hodges said as she began to cry again.

She claims the man pushed her sister out of the way and took one of the bullets for her.

“If he hadn’t done what he did my sister probably would have been much worse than she is,” Hodges said.

The victims did not want to be identified. They are out of the hospital and recovering.
