COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — A woman was hit in the head with a “small cylinder-shaped object” during an attempted carjacking in Collierville.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday outside of Cartridge World at 1016 W. Poplar Ave. The owner of the business left Cartridge World, and a man came up from behind her and hit her in the head, police said.

He demanded her keys, and she tossed the keys and ran into a nearby Mexican restaurant for help.

The victim described the suspect as an African-American man, around 5-and-half feet and about 150 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing, a dark hoodie and a white scarf covering his face, police said.

Shoppers in the shopping center were shocked to hear the news.

“My wife and I were very surprised, busy as this area is,” shopper Steve Ramsey said. “I hardly ever lock my doors in my car. Hardly lock the doors at home unless I’m leaving for some time.”

Just like Ramsey, resident Antha Jones thinks Collierville couldn’t be safer, despite about the latest attack, but she’s also not one to take any chances, no matter her surroundings.

“We had a man come to our work years ago, and he said every time you get out of the car, no matter where you are, look around at your surroundings,” Jones said.

Both Jones and Ramsey rely on Cartridge World for their ink needs, so the attack worries them more.

After the incident, the suspect fled in an unknown direction on foot instead of taking the victim’s car, according to police. The victim had minor injuries and is recovering at home.
