MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities blocked off the intersection of Winchester and Riverdale on Monday after they reportedly cornered two burglary suspects inside a local business.

According to police, authorities were called to a The Gun Store in the 6900 block of Winchester early Monday morning.

Police said two men, 18 and 19 years old, may have entered The Gun Store through a wall, intending to steal guns. When officers arrived, the suspects were on the roof. Officers were heard yelling at them to come down.

Police launched their drones over the store to get a "birds-eye" view of the two armed suspects, eventually talking them into giving up.

"It was awesome to be able to have a birds-eye view as to what was going on," MPD spokeman Louis Brownlee said. "So we were able to see when officers were talking to the suspects."

They were taken into custody around 9 a.m.

Video taken by the owners of The Gun Store shows the suspects on the roof of the business before they climbed down a ladder and into custody. The Gun Store owners thanked the Memphis Police Department in a Facebook post.

Aspire East Academy was on lock down during the incident. They released the following statement:

This morning, our team at Aspire East Academy was notified of a local emergency in the neighborhood that spanned the 6900 block of Winchester. This delayed the start of school for our students. We immediately took action, which included placing the school on lockdown to ensure that our students and teammates would be safe upon arrival. Our schools were not in session at the time of the emergency, and families were consistently updated about the status. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 9:00a.m., as Memphis Police cleared the scene at the store and on the roads. The safety and well-being of scholars, families, and teammates is always our number one priority.
