UPDATE 4/25: Suspect Arrested

(Memphis) Police are on the hunt for a man they shot at, after they say he tried to run them over.

Melvin Coleman told News Channel 3 he saw nothing but squad cars and flashing lights as he walked home Thursday night, “It was just a whole bunch of police.”

“I was like, what’s going on? A bunch of stuff has happened here lately.”

Police say, Thursday night, they pulled over a car for seatbelt violations on Jackson.

The driver of the car was placed in the back of the squad car, which we are told is not abnormal, but how the story unfolds from there, is.

According to the report, the passenger jumped in the driver’s seat and tried to run the officers over.

Police said the two officers fired at the suspect, but they aren’t sure if he was hit.

The news isn’t comforting to Coleman, who says his fiancé was home alone, just yards away.

We’re told the suspect took off in the car, it was later found on Willis.

Back on Coleman’s block, he says Thursday night’s incident is just another example as to why Coleman and his future wife, are looking to move out.
