MEMPHIS, Tenn. —A young woman was rushed to the hospital after she was shot inside her home at The Parkway Apartments on Knight Arnold.

After the shooting the 21-year-old walked to her godmother's home on Ridgeway, right across the street from Belle Forest Community School, for help.

Kids had to walk past the crime scene on the way to school Thursday morning.

"This is shocking, because, normally, there isn't too much that goes on in this area. That's why I chose for my son to be in this school," said Shirlene, who was dropping off her 6-year-old son.

The godmother told WREG the shooting was the result of a home invasion, but police were not able to confirm that information when we spoke to them.

The woman was rushed to the Regional Medical Center. She is expected to be okay.

The suspect in this case is still at large. Police tweeted they believe the victim may know the shooter, but so far they have not released any additional details.
