MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A shots fired call quickly turned into a barricade situation in South Memphis.

It all started when authorities received a shots fired call from the 1300 block of Doris near Wilson around 5:45 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered their suspect had locked himself inside a home.

Despite attempts to talk to him through a window, the man refused to come out.

Police roped off the block in yellow tape. No one -- not even residents -- could pass.

As the hours passed and night fell, more crews arrived.

For more than three hours, police kept their post, trying desperately to get the homeowner to surrender.

Shortly before 10 p.m., a man was seen exiting the home and walking up to police.
