BALLWIN, Mo. — A day after five officers were shot and killed in Dallas, two have been shot in separate states.

A police officer was shot in a suburb of St. Louis.

KMOV-TV reports the officer was shot around 11:10 a.m.

The officer stopped a car and was walking away from it when he was shot in the back.

The incident was caught on the police car cameras.

The officer is in the hospital in critical condition.

In Georgia, authorities say a man opened fire on a police officer in Valdosta Friday morning.

The man reportedly called 911 to report a break-in.

When the officers arrived, he ambushed them, hitting the officer in the abdomen, just below the protective vest.

Other shots hit the officer’s vest.

The suspect was also shot.

Both men are expected to survive.

Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said the officer was shot “multiple times” but is going to be fine.

The suspect was not identified.

Childress would not discuss a possible motive.

Dutton said it’s early in the investigation, but there’s nothing to indicate that the shooting was related to the ambush of police officers in Dallas.
