MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 62-year-old man on his way to the bus stop was pushed to the ground, robbed and shot in both legs, authorities say.

The incident happened on Given Avenue between Bonnie Lane and Sumter Street.

Like every other morning, the victim left his home headed to work around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

As he was walking to a nearby bus stop, the suspect suddenly attacked.

The 62-year-old was rushed to the Regional Medical Center.

He is expected to be okay.

Unfortunately, police said due to his somewhat diminished mental capacity, the victim was unable to give a description of his assailant.

Neighbors told WREG’s Melissa Moon violence is all too common in the area.

One woman described how her home has been broken into on multiple occasions with the latest being over the weekend.

She said during one incident, she was asleep when someone broke into her home and stole several weapons.

The suspect in the latest incident has not been taken into custody.
