MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police launched an investigation overnight after a man was found dead in the Orange Mound area.

Police received a call around 10:18 p.m. Tuesday from the 1500 block of Cella after an apparent shooting. When they arrived, first responders said the man had already died.

People who live on Cella say they’ve seen people who look like they don’t belong hanging out near vacant houses.

Jerry Earl says a man was found shot to death inside a white Jeep. “It’s very scary. Doesn’t much happen here too much, but yeah, that’s pretty scary.”

Police later identified the victim as Justin Borta, 33.

The shooting was one of four across Memphis within four hours. The first was around 9 p.m. on North Parkway, another shooting was on Florida and police also responded to a shooting at the Charleston Apartments on Gosling.

Investigators haven’t said what the shooting on Cella was over or who they’re looking for.

No suspect information is available.
