MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are investigating after a man’s body was found underneath a bridge along Jackson Avenue.

Police responded to the bridge on Jackson Avenue off Chelsea around 7 a.m. after Luis Lara called 911.

“I was over there, you know standing over there, and I saw them guys running towards that way. So, curious, I came down there and I seen the mad dead down there.”

Lara didn’t know the man’s name but recognized him from the area.

“Older guy, Hispanic. He comes out here looking for work. I seen him once, but not talked to him at all.”

He said the victim had recently lost his home and was spending his first night homeless sleeping under the bridge.

Lara said the victim had obvious head injuries and police suggested he may have fallen to his death.

“They asked me if I see him fall. I tell ‘em, ‘No. I didn’t see him fall.’”

Police haven’t confirmed those details and have not released any more information. Police also haven’t identified the victim.
