MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tonight, a teenager is dead and his killer is still on the run after a shooting in Southeast Shelby County.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on the 7700 block of Parkmount Drive.

Earle Farrell, with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that a 17-year-old male died from injuries obtained during the shooting Sunday afternoon.

Deputies say they are picking apart the conflicting information that is holding up the investigation process. At this time, suspects haven’t been named – leaving the neighborhood on edge and heartbroken for the family.

This neighbor didn’t want to be identified but says he heard the gunshots and even more heartbreaking — he says he was standing outside when the teenagers parents showed up.

“To walk outside your garage and see this scene unfolding is just a sad day,” said the neighbor. “That’s all I could hear them saying is ‘I just want to know if that is my child.”

As a father — this neighbor says his heart broke for the family who clearly had many questions.

“They just wanted to know if that was their child lying on the ground covered with a blanket,” said the neighbor.

This is an ongoing investigation. We will update you as more information becomes available.
