MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The suspect wanted for holding a man at gunpoint on the Shelby Farms Greenline is scheduled to be in court on Thursday.
According to police, Brandon Bowen was wearing a face mask and pajamas when he walked up to a 71-year-old man on the trail and pointed his gun at him.
Bowen reportedly ran away when the victim told him he didn’t have any money.
This all happened last Sunday on the Greenline near Podesta and Boswell.
Police were able to identify Bowen as a person of interest in the case fairly quickly, and they took him into custody on Wednesday.
He was charged with attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery.
“Hopefully this is just random. You see patrol officers on the Greenline every time you go,” said Patrick Fike, who lives close to where the attempted robbery happened.
Law enforcement told WREG they take security along the Greenline very seriously since hundreds of thousands of people use it every year.
Multiple agencies patrol the 10.6 mile trail including the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
A spokesperson said they posted SkyCop cameras, and deputies patrol by foot, bike and car.
They said efforts will increase as the temperatures continue to rise.
