MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating a crash in South Memphis that happened after a road rage incident.

A woman who was involved in the crash at Third Street and Belz Boulevard told WREG she was shot at while her 3-year-old was in the car with her.

“I just jumped out the car and ran. He didn’t have his shoes on or anything.”

El-Akima Muhaimin was heading to McDonald’s around 5 p.m. Monday when a black car came tearing through traffic and scraped against her car.

“He comes out busting his fire alarm with his gun, like, three or four times.”

Instead of an apology, she said the driver started shooting at her and her child, narrowly missing their car but sending them careening into traffic in their haste to get away.

“I panicked and I just pushed my foot on the gas and then another car come smacking me, then another car this way come smacking me.”

She hit two cars and came within inches of hitting a third.

“I ain’t did nothing to you. You don’t know me from the man in the moon, and you just out here shooting people because you was at fault for grazing they car, and that’s not right,” she said.

Two people were hurt in the crash, and police said they were both taken to Regional Medical Center. Neither is in critical condition.

When police got to the scene, they were told about the gunshots but also said they received conflicting information and were working to piece together exactly what happened.

Police said no one was shot.

Police said one person was detained “possibly” on an outstanding warrant.

Police said they received conflicting information from the scene and are working to investigate further what exactly happened.

Muhaimin says her car is totaled, but she counts herself lucky she scraped by with what matters most.

“I was blessed through it all. I’m still able to sit here and talk to you all, who I tune into all the time.”
