CLARKSDALE, Miss. — A community wants answers after a man was shot while Clarksdale police were serving a warrant early Monday morning.

The Coahoma County Sheriff Charles Jones said it happened at a home on Pecan Street.

George Fields with the Concerned Citizens Committee in Coahoma County says he was watching as investigators went in and out of a home.

“I just got a call from the victim’s relative, which prompted me to come out and see what was going on,” Fields said.

Fields would not say who called him and would not identify the victim.

“My thing about it is, I don’t really know anything about what really happened this morning but I do know this is not the first time,” Fields said.

Authorities didn’t release any information on that individual.

Fields hopes someone will review policies and procedures for serving warrants to stop people and officers from getting hurt.

“I do understand that each time our law enforcement goes out, they’re putting their life on the line,” Fields said. “I just think they gotta figure out another way to do it other than every time they go out and do a drug bust or serve a warrant on a home. Someone is getting shot.”

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
