MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are combing for clues after a shooting in Hickory Hill left one man dead.
The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the 3400 block of Wild Rye Lane. No one has yet been charged in the crime, but police did have one person detained.
First responders said when they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he later died from his injury. One person was detained on the scene, police said.
Details about what led up to the shooting are unclear, but residents around the complex said they think it was a domestic situation.
"I think it may have been a personal situation," one resident said. "That's sad to hear. It's sad. At night when people are sleeping."
Sadly, this shooting is far from the only report of violence in the area.
WREG mapped the crime in the area, and stats show assaults in a one-mile radius from where this latest shooting happened have nearly doubled since last year. There have been 49 assaults this year, compared to 25 last year.
"You can be in the nicest place, and things are still going to happen the way things are going today," resident Eddie Bond said.
No charges have been filed, and police said this is still an ongoing investigation.
