MILLINGTON, Tenn. — One man is dead after a shooting in Millington late Monday night, and a search is underway for the shooter.

Police were on the scene near Highway 51 and Bill Knight Road around 10 p.m. They found one man laying in the grass, unresponsive with a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to Regional One but was pronounced dead.

Witnesses say the victim was shot while walking near the Commodore Villages apartments. Residents of the apartment complex were shocked to learn that a shootout allegedly took place in their own backyard.

Jalen Carter says he’s left with several bullet holes in his vehicle.

“Come to find out the guys just had a shootout right here in the parking lot and one of the guys that tried to flee the scene ended up passing,” Carter said. “We don’t really notice any violence going on around here or anything. Pretty much everything around here is a family setting.”

Millington police say based several interviews with witnesses on scene they’ve developed solid leads in the investigation. However, no arrests have been made.

“My heart goes out to the family with it being the holidays,” resident Shawn Foster said. “And hopefully they’ll find peace to what happened.”

Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
