MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teenager is dead and another teen is facing charges after a fatal shooting Saturday night in Hickory Hill.
Two days after Thanksgiving, one Memphis family is now planning a funeral.
One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, explained what she saw.
"I saw something down on the ground, and the police cars had lights beaming down on this person," said the neighbor. "It looked like it was a sheet or something over it - and I said, `Somebody got killed right here."
Family tells us the victim, 13-year-old Carl Fowler, was at his friends house in Hickory Hill when he was accidentally shot and killed around 9:30 p.m. last night.
Investigators say Fowlers 13-year-old friend fired the shot.
"I didn't hear no shots or anything - I didn't hear anything," said the neighbor. "I happened to come through the hallways and there were flashing lights."
Fowler's loved ones say the teenager's friend was playing with his dad's gun when it accidentally went off - shooting Fowler in the head.
The people living in the Hickory Hill neighborhood didn't want to talk to WREG, but some neighbors tell say the crime scene kept them blocked in their house for hours last night, as police investigated the shooting death of yet another Memphis child.
Fowler was a basketball player and a student at Kirby Middle School with big dreams of one day making it big in the NBA.
Fowler was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
Fowler's friend was taken to Juvenile Court and charged with reckless homicide, police said.
Fowler's family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral expenses.
