MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- MPD detectives are investigating a shooting involving one of their own.

The shooting happened just before midnight Wednesday night at the Twins Food Mart near Jackson Avenue and Manassas Street in North Memphis.

Police said the officer was on patrol when he spotted three suspects attempting to carjack a man who had just come out of the business.

The three men were armed with a shotgun, an automatic weapon and a handgun.

Memphis police said their officer had just ordered the men to drop those weapons when one of them turned and opened fire.

The officer responded, firing a shot as the suspects fled from the scene.

Those three men are still at large, police said.

At this time, authorities said they do not believe anyone involved was injured.
