Memphis, Tenn. —  A carjacking victim fears the worst is yet to come after she was carjacked at an apartment complex in the 4900 block of Yale Road in Raleigh Friday night.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this a day in my life,” Ley Roberts said.

She says she drove to an apartment complex to pick up a friend, but was blindsided by a masked gunman as soon as the friend got in the car.

“He’s was on top of her and leaned over her to put a gun to my stomach,” Roberts said. “He’s like, ‘Be quiet. Don’t move or I’ll kill you.”

She says he left her friend out, pushed her out and sped away with Roberts’ purse under the seat.

“Everything was in my purse under that seat,” Roberts said.

She says that includes thousands of dollars in cash, her house keys and the social security cards and birth certificates for her, her children and her grandmother.

Now, she’s worried about identity theft and more.

“I’m worried about this man coming back and doing a home invasion. I’m thinking that since he got a large amount of cash that there’s more money,” she said.

And if all that wasn’t enough, Roberts thinks her best friend set her up.

“The way it felt that night, it just didn’t feel comfortable to me,” she said.

She says she wants to change the locks at her house, but doesn’t have any money to do it.

“I just hope they catch the guy,” Roberts said.

She said her friend knew about the cash in her purse and didn’t call for help when the suspect let her out of the car without demanding anything.

“You know, people will do anything. Now look what I have to deal with,” Roberts said.

Memphis police say this is an ongoing investigation, and that no arrests have been made at this point.
