CARMEL, Ind. — “It’s mostly about spreading the love. We need so much more love in this world.”

Six-year-old Brooks Blackmoore had a lot of love for his favorite toy.

“This kid would go to radiation, go to chemo come up, hardly hold his head up and he would say mom can we go to target to get a hot wheel. So of course, I would pack him and go,” mom Tracey Blackmoore told WXIN.

Last June, Brooks was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors found two stage 4 brain tumors.

Six months ago, the tumor was just too aggressive for Brooks.

“It’s easy to sit around and be sad all the time, but the way I feel Brooks the most is through being happy and joy and helping others, and I feel him close to me.”

Hot Wheels made Brooks happy, and now his mom wants to share that feeling. Throughout December, Brooks’ birthday month, she’s hiding Hot Wheels cars around town — at schools, in shopping carts, even high chairs at restaurants.

“It just warms my heart that we can do something like this for him,” Tracey Blackmoore said. “Wherever we go, we will leave a little Brooksy surprise behind.”

Brooks’ mom wants to spread her sons spirit and to help others smile. And so far it’s working, and a few finders have come forward.

“The one that was found at Kroger, the family said that they will be donating to the St. Baldrick’s foundation in honor of Brooks on his birthday, and their kids are saving up all their allowance money to donate as well.”

A bit of kindness hat started with a hidden Hot Wheels car and a not so hidden message: If you’re going through a fight, be bigger than brave — be Brooks Brave.

“We’re here, we are hurting, but we are making it and we still have hope, hope that we will see him again.”
