UPDATE: Arkansas State Police said Wednesday that the remains found this weekend have been identified by the medical examiner as Howard Earl Holmes, 70, of Wynne.
The Arkansas State Police is continuing its investigation into Holmes’ death. Anyone with information about Holmes’ whereabouts dating back as far as Nov. 2 this year is asked to contact the Arkansas State Police or the Wynne Police Department.
Arkansas State Police activated a Silver Alert for Holmes on Nov. 20, at the request of Wynne Police. The alert stated Holmes had last been seen Nov. 2 in Wynne.
Tuesday, that Silver Alert was deactivated by state police.
WYNNE, Ark. — A body was discovered Sunday afternoon by Arkansas State Police in Wynne, Arkansas.
Police were notified after a local resident walking nearby saw the body in a shallow drainage ditch between Front and Ash Street.
According to a news release, the remains found are believed to be those of an adult male.
The identity of the deceased, as well as the cause of death have not yet been determined.
Era Bankston’s peaceful Sunday afternoon interrupted when she saw officers from the Wynne Police Department searching the drainage ditch nearby.
She was shocked to learn what had just been discovered not too far from her backyard.
“Somebody came through and mentioned they found a body over in the ditch…I said,”body?’ I really don’t know anything else,” Bankston said.
WREG reached out to Wynne Police to see if they have had any missing persons reports recently but were told no investigators were available.
The Arkansas State Police reports their agents began developing leads in the case but would not elaborate.
This is an ongoing investigation.
