MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities have confirmed the latest person to be tragically killed in the city of Memphis was a school teacher.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time.

According to authorities, officers were called to the 5400 block of Pipers Gap around 10:30 a.m. The caller told authorities he came to the home to check on his co-worker when he didn’t show up to work.

They found him unresponsive. He had been shot during what appears to have been a home invasion.

Neighbors told WREG it appears the victim was followed home and the suspect(s) took electronics.

The victim had only lived in the home for 4 to 5 months and was single, they added.

He was a music teacher and attended the University of Memphis.

Officers do have one person detained.

The previous record was set in 1993 with 213 homicides.
