MEMPHIS, Tenn. —Neighbors are seeking answers after a man was shot and killed in a possible home invasion Thursday morning on the 4100 block of Cochese Avenue.
Police believed the man was killed sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and officers are now actively searching for his stolen minivan as neighbors react to news of his death.
“I know he was an Oriental, and he was a good guy. A quiet man,” said neighbor Harvey Williams. “He didn’t bother anybody.”
Neighbors say the victim was home alone when a relative returned home and found his body.
“He said he called his name, and he didn’t answer,” said neighbor Debbra Meadow. “He proceeded to go into the house, and that’s where he saw him lying on the floor.”
Neighbors are thinking it was possibly a home invasion. But if it was, it went down quietly.
“I didn’t hear any gunshots,” said Meadow. “I didn’t see anything strange.”
Neighbors say the lack of answers is the strangest and most frustrating part of it all.
“I need to know what’s going on,” said Meadow. “I’m right here, you know. It could have happened to me.”
Williams expressed frustration with how violent the neighborhood has become in the last 25 years.
“This neighborhood has gone down. This is the worst neighborhood in Memphis, Parkway Village,” he said.
Neither police nor the coroner would confirm the man’s identity Thursday afternoon, because the coroner said he had not yet been positively identified.
Police are looking for the victim’s teal green or gray 2015 Hondy Odyssey with Tennessee tag 891-FSM.
No suspects are in custody at the moment.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (901)-528-CASH.
