MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead and police are searching for suspects following a shooting in the Winchester Bowl parking lot on South Mendenhall Road.

Miko Smith says her son Lamar Smith Jr. was shot and killed.

WREG’s Melissa Moon spoke with a woman who says she was inside the building doing karaoke when the initial fight broke out around 10 p.m. Sunday.

“Everyone kind of looked up at the same time and we immediately locked the doors to keep patrons in the bar safe, because the lights hadn’t come on in the bowling area yet. We didn’t know what was going on. All we know we saw people running and screaming.  I even saw a chair being thrown. At one point, a garbage can being thrown.”

That’s when security guards stepped in and escorted several people out of the building. Several minutes later, things escalated once more.

“I would say five or 10 minutes lapsed and after that somebody came running inside the bar and said there was a shooting in the parking lot.”

Police said one man was shot and later died from his injuries.

Witnesses told officers that someone in a white Ford F-150 opened fire, hitting the victim and a number of cars.

Police are reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify the shooter.

Anyone with information about the killing is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
