MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been charged with causing a crash that killed a motorcyclist Sunday night.

Police say Onesimo Gardea, 38, was drunk when he was driving north on Lamar when he made a left turn and hit a motorcycle.

He then left the scene according to police.

Gardea is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, no license, no registration, no insurance, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said Gardea had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

The motorcyclist died on the scene.

Family identified him as Christopher Kinsey III, a 21-year-old father of a baby who is not even a year old yet.

Gardea has previously been arrested in Southaven, Mississippi, for disorderly conduct, domestic violence, no driver’s license and a traffic violation.
