MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl on the way to school appeared in court on Thursday.

A judge set Larry Ward‘s bond at $50,000 and ordered him to return to court on December 16.

The 20-year-old faces rape, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault charges stemming from the incident earlier this week.

The child was reportedly walking to Geeter Middle School around 7 a.m. from her home when Ward pulled up in a blue SUV.  After raping her, he left her in a ditch near Delta and Mason Roads.

Officers arrested Ward after they reported seeing his car in this area on Raines Road near Weaver Road. They say the car matched the description from the assault nine hours earlier. Ward and a woman in the car were detained, with Ward later getting booked.

His record shows a history of burglary of a building and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
