CORINTH, Miss. — A security camera photo is all Corinth police have to go on for now as they try to solve five break-ins that happened early Tuesday morning.
In the photo, a man is wearing a black mask, a jacket, blue jeans, and a blue shirt with a distinctive design. He’s wanted for smashing the office window at a Corinth mini-storage company and stealing money.
Police believe the same man also broke into four restaurants during his crime spree from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
Taylor’s Escape on Highway 72 was one of them.
“At 3:30 in the morning my security system called me and said, ‘There’s an alarm going off.’ And I said, ‘At 3:30 in the morning there shouldn’t be anybody here,'” owner Billy Taylor said.
Taylor and police found a smashed front door and three large rocks on the floor of the restaurant lobby.
“I don’t know if he threw them all at one time or threw them at different times. But they was all laying there by each other,” Taylor said.
Taylor said he doesn’t keep any money in his restaurant overnight, so all the break-in cost him was a new front door.
“This cost me $510, these three rocks did. So I’m going to keep them,” Taylor said.
He said he heard cash was taken from the other businesses, but he doesn’t know how much. He’s mad someone would break into his business and leave a mess behind, all for nothing.
“I know everybody that has a restaurant works very, very hard. It’s the hardest work you’ll ever do,” Taylor said.
He’d like to see police nab the guy fast and make him pay for his crimes, but Taylor thinks the crook is long-gone.
“They said if they catch him, they’ll try to get the money back. But that ain’t gonna happen. If he has to break into a place he ain’t gonna have the money to pay back anyway, you know,” Taylor said.
Police want to catch the masked burglar, and they could use your help. If you have information about who committed the Tuesday morning break-ins, call Corinth Police at 662-286-3377 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-8477.
