COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — The popular burger chain Whataburger will not be coming to Collierville after all.

The town of Collierville requested withdrawal of the Whataburger development on Jan 14.

Back in July of 2021, the fast-food restaurant announced it would open five restaurants across the Mid-South within the next two years.

Locations include two in Southaven and one each in Memphis, Cordova and Collierville.

The Collierville location was set to be at 1088 West Poplar Avenue besides Chick-Fil-A.

Collierville Spokeswoman Jennifer Casey said the town last heard from Whataburger in December when project leaders presented a traffic study.

“There wasn’t much detail given to us in the withdrawal letter. Our board is open to Whataburger coming here but just not at the particular location based on the presentation they gave regard the traffic issues,” she said.

Casey is hoping Whataburger considers another property.

“Collierville does have more areas to offer in places that would probably make more sense and not quite the impact on the traffic issues we already have at that location,” she said.

As of right now, Whataburger is still on track to open the other four Mid-South locations in the Mid-South later this year.

We’ve reached out to their corporate office for an update on the projects but have not heard back.
