MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say they found human remains in Southwest Memphis but have not determined who the person is or how they died.
The Memphis Police Department said late Monday night, they received a suspicious call from someone who said there were possible human remains at Crossfield and Holmes Roads.
Police said the medical examiner determined the skeletal remains were human and belonged to one person.
A neighbor on Crossfield said Tuesday morning he saw several vehicles, including a police cruiser and a forensics van, parked at the end of the dead-end street.
The man, who did not want to be identified, said he had no idea why they were there, but he wasn’t too concerned or surprised officers had found skeletal remains.
“It’s Memphis. They are finding bodies all the time,” he said.
The area is surrounded by woods and an illegal dumpsite and is not far from the Ruby Estates subdivision.
