Possible getaway car in downtown shooting on June 12.

This shooting happened one week after another shooting was reported near Beale Street. Officers responded to a shooting at BB King and Peabody Place that left two people injured. One man was shot in the leg, and another woman was grazed by a bullet while walking to her car.

MPD said the getaway car had the words “MCB” on the back and also has a tow hitch on the rear bumper.

Some downtown residents said while crime does happen, there is still a lot of good going on in Memphis.

“Sometimes that seems to overshadow all the positives like the Juneteenth celebration, like the air devils that are here,” Marcie Vargas said. “Like all the tourist that do come and love the hospitality.”

They said despite the recent shootings, they feel safe living downtown.

“We live far enough and close enough to Beale Street where we can enjoy the area,” Al Quesada said. “I think the city sometimes gets a bad wrap.”
